This sentence appears here because it sums up the whole topic in eight words. Yes, it is possible. No, not without limits. Anyone who thinks of metabolism as a dial that can simply be turned up has misunderstood the system, and half the market rests on precisely this misunderstanding.

Honesty also means acknowledging the pace: building muscle is slow, especially without systematic training, and the increases in resting metabolic rate per kilogram are modest. The benefit lies less in a rapid jump in energy expenditure than in the direction: A body with more muscle is more forgiving, maintains its weight more easily, and does not become thrifty as quickly during weight loss.
